Liria - Alleviating Norfolk’s Covid Mental Health Problems

Liria, a new Norfolk based wellbeing business, is applying ancient methods of healing through the power of touch.

Reflexology and massage dates back to ancient cultures around 2330BC where evidence suggests that practitioners healed the body through working on the hands and feet. It is now recognised by the NHS, GP’s and many hospices.

It’s been a tough year and reports suggest that over 80% of people living with mental illness say that Covid 19 and the national response has made their mental health worse.

With increasing focus on the health and wellbeing of employees post pandemic, Liria is teaming up with local businesses to support their staff, boost morale and provide access to alternative methods such as reflexology, massage, yoga and meditation.

The number of businesses offering massage to lower stress and improve productivity is growing every year. It’s no surprise when you consider how massage can improve creative thinking and relieve fatigue, it’s better than a cup of coffee! Absenteeism, poor mental health, low workplace morale all contribute to lower levels of productivity and can have a hugely negative impact on businesses.

For companies outside of Norfolk and those with many staff still working from home Liria runs online corporate wellbeing sessions with a focus on bringing teams together and teaching stress busting tools such as pranayama (breathing techniques) gentle yoga and visualisation meditation.

Owner Laura McMillan said ‘I was drawn to the ancient Egyptian healing art of Reflexology as a teenager and have found it to be a powerful tool to holistically restore balance in the body especially alleviating deteriorating mental health symptoms such as anxiety, depression and insomnia. With sensitive trained hands I am able to detect tiny deposits and imbalances in the feet and by working on these points I can release blockages and restore the flow of energy through the body.’

Liria prides itself in offering every client a unique personalised and tailored experience in a safe space of positive energy and healing.

Many still see self care as a luxury rather than a necessity, Liria’s main aim is to raise awareness, break down the barriers to self care and to make their holistic techniques as accessible as possible for both the local community and further afield. ‘It is more important now than ever, to look after our bodies and our mental health, it would be a shame for people to miss out due to the current restrictions’

Laura has an internationally recognised yoga teacher qualification, is a member of the Yoga Alliance International and a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists. With a lifelong passion for holistic healing it is her mission to help as many people as possible back to health post pandemic.

Beginners group online yoga sessions for all abilities are held every Monday and Wednesday evening 7-8pm via zoom, booking info and full details of all therapies and corporate packages can be found on their website
